Applying to SMSU
You are about to make your first step toward becoming a student at Southwest Minnesota State University. We are excited you have decided to apply for admission to our university.

Instructions for On-Campus Freshmen:
- Complete application for admission
- Submit $20 Non-refundable application fee
- Submit scores from the ACT (code #2151) or the SAT (code #6703)
- Send us an official High School Transcript
Instructions for On-Campus Transfers:
- Complete application for admission
- Submit $20 Non-refundable application fee
- Submit official transcript(s) from each previously attended college or university.
Online Application Instructions
- Create your account
- Click the "I need an account" button.
- Enter your account information
- Remember your username and password.
- Click on Save Account Data. You will receive an email confirmation.
- Click on Log in and complete application
- Enter the username and password you used to create your account and click on Login.
- Select “Click here to apply now.”
- Complete and submit the on-line application for Southwest Minnesota State University. Be sure to confirm information is accurate and enter your password.
- As part of this process, please be sure to select a major. If you choose non-degree seeking as your major, you will not be eligible for financial aid.
- Upon submission of your application, you will be informed of additional requirements needed to complete your admission. Be sure to fulfill these requirements in addition to submitting your application by the posted deadlines.
- Log out and login again to pay the $20 application fee.
- Send official high school and college transcripts to the Admissions Office.
- Submit scores from the ACT (code #2151) or the SAT (code #6703)
- The SMSU Office of Admission will contact you on the status of your application.
