Josh Brusven

Josh Brusven isn’t quite sure why Twin Lakes in Lyon County have been increasing in size over the past 70 years. The only thing he knows for sure is that approximately 3.3 acres of new water per year has increased the size of the lakes considerably over that time period. “A total of 229 acres,” said Brusven.

Brusven will be one of the participants in the fourth Undergraduate Research Conference, held Wednesday, Dec. 3 at SMSU. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Homecoming 2009

"Mustang Mardi Gras" warmed the hearts of alumni, students, faculty and staff last week, even though the temperatures were a bit chillier than normal.

A full week of activities surrounded Homecoming, and participants didn't let an early snow Friday evening dampen their spirits.

Taylor Huseby, a senior Exercise Science major from Pelican Rapids, Minn., was crowned Homecoming king during coronation on Oct. 8. Crowned queen was Trina Dammann, a senior Agribusiness and Finance major from Jeffers, Minn.

The University Gala drew a good crowd, and featured food prepared by New Orleans, La., chef Emile Stieffel, a special guest of the university during the week.

H1N1 Info

Cases of Influenza-Like -Illnesses (ILI) have recently been identified at SMSU Health Services and the local medical clinic. Although clinics do not routinely perform influenza testing, Federal Recommendations will be followed to protect the illness from spreading.

The most important strategy for managing the H1N1 virus on a university campus is planning. At Southwest Minnesota State University we have been working at every level in preparation for an influenza outbreak. Please review the following information to minimize the risk of transmission, signs and symptoms of the illness, and what to do if you do become ill.
