Speech Center

Spring Semester 2012

Speech Center Location and Mission:
The Speech Center is located on the fifth floor of the Library, near The Writing Center. The Speech Center consultant will provide free tutoring for all students for any course that requires public speaking or group presentations. The student does not need to be enrolled in a public speaking course. The tutor will help any SMSU student prepare for a speech or class presentation.

The tutor can provide examples of all outline arrangements, research sources, help brainstorm topics and help with delivery techniques.

The Speech Center is equipped with a camera and recording equipment along with all “smart facilities” needed. All students will be able to practice their speeches or group presentations, using any visual aids they may have, record the practice speeches and presentations to then playback for critiquing of what they do well and what aspects of the presentation they need to improve or strengthen.

Spring Semester 2012 Days and Hours Open With Tutor Available:

         Monday:  12:00-3:00pm and 5:00-8:00pm

         Tuesday:  3:00-6:00pm

         Wednesday: 12:00-3:00pm

Students are encouraged to reserve time with the tutors; a sign-up sheet will be available at the Center. If a student simply wants to practice or does know how the technology and equipment works, they may use the Speech Center outside the hours of tutor availability. The key can be signed out from the Circulation desk of the Library. We encourage all faculty to inform their students about this opportunity and resource to improve the student’s public speaking skills and group presentations.
