Liberal Education Committee

The Liberal Education Committee (LEC) is charged with the oversight of the SMSU Liberal Education Program (LEP) and associated Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC). The purpose of the committee is to review courses and activities in order to ensure that the philosophy and structure of the LEP is maintained.

The membership of the LEC includes:
1. One faculty Co-Chair with a three-year term

  • Tony Greenfield

2. One administrative Co-Chair at the level of Assistant Dean or above

  • Aimee Shouse

3. Five faculty members from the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences, selected by the SmSUFA Executive Committee to serve a two-year term.

  • Jeff Kolnick
  • Sami Shahin
  • Tom Williford
  • Mark Fokken
  • Maureen Sander-Staudt

4. One faculty member from the College of Business, Education, and Professional Studies, selected by the SmSUFA Executive Committee to serve a two-year term.

  • Sangnyeol Jung

5. One member from the McFarland Library to serve a two-year term.

  • Pam Gladis

6. One member from the Educational Opportunity Program to serve a two-year term.

  • Linda Nelson

7. The Vice President of Student Affairs or designee, to serve as needed, as a consultant and nonvoting member
