LEP100: First Year Seminar and LEP400: Contemporary Issue Seminar are considered to be the “bookends” of the SMSU Liberal Education Program.  Together with the Minnesota Transfer curriculum and academic major, these courses encourage students to see connections across the various academic disciplines and develop a deeper, more unified understanding of their university education.

LEP100

The purpose of First Year Seminar (FYS) is to introduce critical thinking and information literacy skills that will be continuously practiced and strengthened throughout our liberal education curriculum. FYS should also help students develop an understanding and appreciation of the liberal arts and encourage them to become involved in the campus community.
