Scholarships

Various scholarships are offered within the Science Department. Below is a listing of scholarships for Exercise Science majors. Funding amounts are limited and vary yearly. Not all scholarships are available on a yearly basis. Scholarship applications are normally reviewed in spring semester. Scholarship awards are disbursed through the SMSU Financial Aid office.

  • Exercise Science Annual Scholarship - Donated by Faculty, Alumni and Friends of the University. This scholarship is for a Junior, or Senior majoring in Exercise Science.
     
  • Exercise Science Linde Scholarship - Donated by Nicholas and Kasey Linde. The Linde Scholarship was established to recognize a Freshman at SMSU who displays a high level of character, leadership, and academic excellence. Nicholas and Kasey ('11) Linde believe strongly in higher education. Kasey (Uran) Linde is a 2011 alum of the Exercise Science program, team member of the SMSU volleyball team and president of the Exercise Science Club. The individualized attention from faculty members, potential leadership opportunities, and applicable course curriculum, prepares Exercise Science students to be successful in their future endeavors.
  • Exercise Science-Anoka-Ramsey Campus Annual Scholarship – This scholarship is awarded to an Exercise Science major enrolled in the Exercise Program delivered through Anoka-Ramsey Community College. The recipient may be either a new entering student to the university’s collaborative program with other MnSCU institutions as either a first-year freshman or transfer student; or may be a returning student to the university’s collaborative program in Exercise Science.  *** Students applying for this scholarship must submit a typed essay of at least 300 words in length addressing the question “Why does study in your major area interest you and how does your major area of study relate to your personal and career goals?”
  • Exercise Science-North Hennepin Campus Annual Scholarship – This scholarship is awarded to an Exercise Science major enrolled in the Exercise Program delivered through North Hennepin Community College. The recipient may be either a new entering student to the university’s collaborative program with other MnSCU institutions as either a first-year freshman or transfer student; or may be a returning student to the university’s collaborative program in Exercise Science.  *** Students applying for this scholarship must submit a typed essay of at least 300 words in length addressing the question “Why does study in your major area interest you and how does your major area of study relate to your personal and career goals?”
  • Brent and Mary Jeffers Exercise Science Endowed Scholarship –  This scholarships was established for the purpose of providing financial assistance to an SMSU undergraduate student who has declared his/her major as Exercise Science. The recipient of this scholarship may be either a new entering student as a freshman or transfer student; or may be a returning student to the university as a sophomore, junior or senior. ***Students applying for this scholarship must submit a typed essay of at least 300 words in length addressing the question “Why does study in your major area interest you and how does your major area of study relate to your personal and career goals?”
  • Ward  and Sharon Jeffers Scholarship –  This scholarships was established for the purpose of providing financial assistance to an SMSU undergraduate student who graduated from a Minneapolis or St. Paul, Minnesota inner-city public high school. Preference is intended for declared Exercise Science majors, however, if there is no Exercise Science major that meets the criteria, then other majors or undeclared students will be considered. Scholarship recipients are not restricted to on-campus (Marshall) students only, but also other MnSCU campuses with a collaborative program with SMSU. The recipient of this scholarship may be a full or part-time student, either a new entering student as a freshman or transfer student; or may be a returning student to the university as a sophomore, junior or senior. ***Students applying for this scholarship must submit a typed essay of at least 300 words in length addressing the question “Why does study in your major area interest you and how does your major area of study relate to your personal and career goals?”
  • Mortier Family Scholarship - Donated by Joseph and Ruthie Mortier in honor of Charles and Bertha Mortier. This scholarship is for a student who has not received a scholarship to date, and must be at least a junior standing academically with a minimum GPA of 3.0 majoring in a science-related field. The student also must have a permanent address within SW MN.
     
  • Science, Mathematics & Computer Science Scholarship - Donated by Faculty, Alumni and Friends of the University. This scholarship is for a full-time Sophomore, Junior, or Senior majoring in Science, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
     
  • Dr. Gordon & Helen Wands - Donated by Dr. Patrick Wands, Tim and Teresa Wands and Family, Shannon and Jeff S. Wands and Family, and Gary Wands. This scholarship is for a fourth year student majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Pre-Med, Pre-Optometry, or a related field with an intent to enter a health care profession.
