Posted 02.22.2012

A new Southwest Minnesota State University Planetarium show, “Cosmic Colors,” will be shown at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25.

The SMSU Planetarium is located in the Science and Math Building, room 108.

“Cosmic Colors” takes the viewer on a journey across the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Discover the many reasons for color — why is the sky blue, and why is Mars red?

Viewers will take a tour within a plant leaf and journey inside the human eye. Investigate x-rays by voyaging to a monstrous black hole and then back at your doctor’s office. Based on recent evidence, viewers will be able to see the actual color of a dinosaur.

Posted 02.17.2012

Here’s a tip for you — the money you drop into the piggy bank next to the Java City cash register goes toward scholarships through the SMSU Foundation.

“We usually turn it into the Foundation about once a semester,” said Heidi Haro, ARAMARK Food Service Director at Southwest Minnesota State University.

The most recent donation was for $112.06, she said.
“It’s been going on about three years,” said Haro.
