GIS Data Page

The internet is rich with sources of downloadable data for use in a GIS. Here are links to a few:

The USGS  (United States Geological Survey) produces maps for the nation. The US Government's Open Data is a web-based portal to offer one-stop access to maps, data, and other geospatial services from across all levels of government, including the USGS.

Excellent sources of data produced and used by Minnesota state agencies are the MN Geospatial Commons site and the Minnesota GeoGateway site.

The GIS Center downloads and uses data of regional interest for use in classes and student projects. The local data housed at the Center is available for use in the Center.  Contact the director of the GIS Center (email: elliot.vaughan@smsu.edu or phone: (507)537-6189) for more information about the data available at the Center.
