High-Speed Internet

Southwest Minnesota State University residence hall students have access to the Information Superhighway right in their rooms because each residence hall room is wired with a high-speed data link to Internet service. The system provides direct Internet and e-mail access and high-speed data transfers.

In order to use the high-speed Internet, you will need to pick up and complete an Internet Sign-Up Form at Computer Services, located in BA 182. A computer using the Windows operating system requires at minimum Windows 95 or NT, a Pentium 100 processor, 16 Megs of RAM, and 30 Megs of free hard drive space for Netscape or Internet Explorer. Computers with a Mac OS require at minimum 7.5.5 software, available Open Transport, 16 Megs of RAM, and 30 Megs of free hard drive space for Netscape or Internet Explorer. Laptops must have their own 10BaseT Ethernet Card.

Once the Internet Sign-Up Form has been submitted to Computer Services, you will be able to make an appointment there for the actual connection to be established. You must be present in your room when your computer is connected to the service. Set up and high-speed Internet costs are included in room and board costs.
