1. Who do I contact regarding training on the VoIP phone system?

Please contact the TRC at 6111 or TRChelpdesk@smsu.edu to schedule a training time.

2. Are there materials available for self-training?

Yes, a customized guide for SMSU employees with the 8945 models is available at the following web site: SMSU Quick Start Guide
A “quick start guide” is also available at the Cisco web site listed below. However, please note that not all features described on this guide have been enabled at SMSU: Quick Start Guide (8945)

While customized guides have not been developed for the 7925G and 9971 models, quick start guides for each of these models are also available at the Cisco web sites below. Again, note that not all features described have been enabled at SMSU:

Quick Start Guide (9971)

3. Is there a conferencing phone available for use?

There are three (3) conferencing phone systems available for check-out. Two of these phones can be checked out from the Scheduling Office. Another phone is available for check out from the HR office. The following quick start guide on these systems is available: Conferencing Phone Guide

4.Are there any locations that can be dialed toll-free?

Yes, since SMSU is using the same VoIP core infrastructure utilized by Minnesota West and Ridgewater Colleges, calls to those campus locations can also be made toll-free. With some exceptions, dialing to Minnesota West and Ridgewater College phones can be done via 4 digit dialing. There are some numbers however that will require 10-digit dialing given some overlapping numbers that exist among the campuses. Long-term, there is a potential that toll-free dialing can be enabled to other MnSCU campuses across the state.

5. Who do I contact to report operational issues with the phones?

Any operational issues should be reported to the TRC at 6111 or TRChelpdesk@smsu.edu.

6. Should a new phone need to be ordered for a new faculty or staff member or should an existing phone and phone # need to be relocated to a different office, who do I contact?

Any such request should be directed to the TRC at 6111 or TRChelpdesk@smsu.edu.

7. How will departments be billed and how much will it cost each department?

The formula for determining the pooled charges for the VoIP system is still in development. For those departments that pay for their monthly local service from their operating cost centers, the cost will be lower, but have not yet been fully determined. Long distance charges will remain the same. No charges have yet been posted for the 2012-13 academic year, so you will notice these charges posted to departmental accounts later this fall.

8. How to set-up your voice mail for the first time, or access your voice mail settings?
