'Team Pufflings' to Defend National Title
“Team Pufflings” is ready to defend its title at the Research Chefs Association Student Culinology Competition in Portland, Ore.
SMSU claimed the championship a year ago and has won two of the last three national competitions. The event occurs during the annual Research Chefs Association convention.
This year’s competition category is Pacific Northwest featuring grab-and-go seafood items.
SMSU’s four-person team will enter “pufflings” a pastry-filled item. The team will enter three varieties of pufflings: Asian, Mexican and traditional. The name “pufflings” evolved from “curry puffs,” said Culinology Professor Dr. Michael Cheng.... Read More 'Team Pufflings' to Defend National Title
Jan Loft Named Dean, College of Arts, Letters and Sciences
Dr. Jan Loft has been named the permanent Dean of the College of Arts, Letters and Sciences at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Loft has been the interim Dean of the College of Arts, Letters and Sciences since 2011.
Prior to that she was a Speech Communication professor, chairperson of the Department of Speech and Theatre on two occasions, and twice president of the SMSU Faculty Association.
She earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from South Dakota State University, and a master’s in Speech Communication and a bachelor’s in Mass Communication from MSU Mankato.... Read More Jan Loft Named Dean, College of Arts, Letters and Sciences
4 SMSU Students Present Research at Capitol
Four Southwest Minnesota State University students presented their undergraduate research at the state Capitol rotunda on Feb. 26.
A total of 35 students presented research posters during the Minnesota Undergraduate Scholars event, which highlights the research of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) students.
The Capitol presentations allow students to share the results of the work with legislators and other leaders in state government and draws attention to the work being done on the MnSCU campuses around the state.
