Spring Philosophy Speaker Series at SMSU

Dr. Bertha Alverez Manninen will be the featured speaker at a Philosophy Speaker Series event from 3-5:15 p.m. on Monday, March 23 in Charter Hall 201 on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University.

Manninen is an associate professor of philosophy and ethics at Arizona State University. She will discuss her book, “Pro-life, Pro-choice: Shared Values in the Abortion Debate.”

Two SMSU philosophy students will also read from their papers. They include:

  • Erin Reps, a senior from Belgrade, Minn., “Untrapped Potential: Teaching Children About Philosophy Through Children’s Literature”; and
  • Chad Conway, a senior from Marshall, Minn., “Against Abortion: Distinguishing Pre-Natal Functionality from Pre-Natal Development.”

Reps will read at 3 p.m., followed by Conway at 3:25 p.m. and Manninen at 4 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

It is sponsored by the SMSU Philosophy Club and the Feminist Club.
