Farm Outlook Seminar March 11 at SMSU

Four agricultural experts will be featured at the 31st annual Farm Outlook Seminar on Wednesday, March 11 at the Southwest Minnesota State University Upper Conference Center.

The Farm Outlook Seminar raises scholarship dollars for SMSU’s agriculture programs and features agriculture experts discussing topics such as weather, crop outlook, livestock strategies and prices as they relate to the upcoming spring farm season.

Registration is from 8-9 a.m. and will be followed by the speakers. A prime rib luncheon is provided, and the day concludes at approximately 4 p.m.

The presenters include:

  • Jerry Gulke: He is the founder of the Gulke Group, a research and information analysis firm providing marketing strategies for producers from all aspects of agriculture, including grains, livestock and cotton. He writes the monthly Marketing Strategy column for Top Producer magazine and is actively involved in corn and soybean production on a farm in northern Illinois and the overall management of a farm near Ellendale, N.D.
  • Jim Stephenson: He has been a financial advisor with Wells Fargo in Aberdeen, S.D. since 1981 and has a deep knowledge and understanding of the U.S. economy and different investment asset classes and the risk and returns associated with each of them. His goal is advising his ag clients to help them maximize their investment returns.
  • Roger Wallace: He has worked as a commodity broker and analyst for Scoular Grain Co. and was in charge of editorial content for DTN. He also served as Senior Vice President and was on the Board of Directors for DTN. He is involved in day-to-day management operations of Walras Farms, LLC, is a partner in Elkhorn Valley Feedyard Services, LLC, and serves on the board of directors of Cottonwood Feedyard, LLC.
  • Jeff Beal: He has been a full-time analyst with Gulke Group for over 15 years and was the featured analyst on ag radio broadcasts in Illinois and Iowa for over seven years. He currently writes a monthly column for the Executive Marketing publication. His primary focus is on the U.S./Global Supply and Demand information used in combination with short- and long-term technical analysis and the close monitoring of speculative positions on the Chicago Board of Trade
