Regional Workforce Summit at SMSU Oct. 28

Southwest Minnesota State University will host a Regional Workforce Summit on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 7:45 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom.

The workforce summit is designed to attract, develop and retain the region’s advanced workforce by strengthening industry and education partnerships. The workforce summit will identify innovation, create strategies that move people to jobs, drive systemic change, spread factual small-town narratives and drive strategic partnerships.

Keynote speaker Sarah Sladek is the founder of XYZ University, the nation’s first and only generation-focused management company. She is also the author of four books and several research papers on generational topics. Her expertise has been prominently featured in international media, including Forbes, Fast Company and National Public Radio. Backed by years of experience and supported by solid research, she remains committed to helping organizations engage every generation to thrive and prosper in the new economy. She talks at 8:45 a.m.

Luncheon speakers include Scott Peterson, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer of the Schwan Food Co., and Steven J. Rosenstone, Chancellor of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.

There will be over a dozen breakout sessions and discussion forums around topics including preparing youth for work, improving the image of manufacturing, preparing healthcare workforce, creating great places to work, engaging a diverse workforce and others. Participants are asked to bring their ideas and share them with other attendees throughout the day.

The Summit is hosted by the Southwest Initiative Foundation, SWWC Service Cooperative and Southwest Minnesota State University and is being planned and developed by a broad partnership of business, education and agency leaders from across southwest and west central Minnesota.

Cost to attend is $45 per person and includes lunch and refreshments. Space is limited.
