Southwest Minnesota State University has been named to the 2016 Military Friendly Schools list.

Military Friendly Schools is sponsored by Victory Media. The list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students to ensure their success on campus.

It is the second year in a row SMSU has been named a Military Friendly School.

“We have a number of students who are in the service now, as well as many veterans who have enrolled at SMSU,” said President Connie J. Gores. “We’re proud to be the university of choice for our veterans, and being named a Military Friendly School recognizes the efforts of so many individuals to support our military members and their families.”

Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding.

It is the second honor for SMSU regarding veterans. Last year, the university was named a Yellow Ribbon Business. Yellow Ribbon Businesses are honored for their collaborative efforts with the community to help bolster support for veterans and military spouses.

SMSU has an active Veterans Club and a Veterans Resource Center where veterans and their families can go to study, socialize and have their benefit-related questions answered.
