SMSU Theatre’s 51st season continues with Miss Electricity, a short comedy for children and families by Kathryn Walat. Performances are February 23 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and February 24 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. All performances are in the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre, with free parking available in lot B-1. Show tickets are $10 and are available at www.SMSUtickets.com and at the door.

All performances are free for SMSU students with a valid ID. Up to 3 children (12 and under) can attend free with each paying adult or with each SMSU student. The show is also touring to area elementary schools on Fridays from February 15 through March 8.

Miss Electricity tells the story of fifth-grader Violet, who wants to show everyone how special she is by breaking a world record, but she gets so pre-occupied with her goal that she neglects her friends and family. When Violet seemingly gains the ability to control electricity, the power goes to her head, and only wisdom from Mount Olympus can remind her to appreciate her everyday life.

Miss Electricity is directed by Professor of Theatre Nadine Purvis Schmidt of Estelline, S.D., who is also the producer. Assistant Professor of Theatre and SMSU Theatre Arts alumnus Mike Lenz of Cottonwood, Minn., is the scenic, lighting, and sound designer and technical director. Professor of Theatre Sheila Tabaka of Marshall, Minn., is the costume designer. Sally Tabaka, a Marshall High School senior and SMSU PSEO student, is the rehearsal stage manager. There are two casts of actors (Company M and Company E) who alternate between performances:
