Energy-efficient Lighting Being Installed on Campus

Energy efficient light fixtures are being installed at Southwest Minnesota State University in a summer-long project.
“We’re retrofitting the fixtures so our T-12 lamps can become T-8 lamps. They’re more energy efficient. Also, they will stop making the T-12 lamps soon, by the first of July,” said Facilities Director Cyndi Holm.
The project began May 7 and is expected to be completed by mid-August.
“The lamps use less energy and product more light,” said Holm.
Lee is Director of Diversity and Inclusion

Jefferson Lee IV has been named the director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Lee had served as director in an interim basis since August 2011.
Lee is an SMSU alumnus, having graduated in 1996 with a degree in Sociology. He earned an MBA degree from SMSU in 2010, and a master’s in Counseling and Human Resource Development from South Dakota State University in 1999.
As director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Lee will implement programming that brings about cultural inclusion and awareness within the campus community, and the greater southwest Minnesota community, as well.
Theme Selected for 2012 Homecoming

The theme of Homecoming 2012 will be “Mustangs for Life: Southwest Through the Ages.”
Homecoming will be the week of Oct. 1-6. 2012.
The theme was announced on the SMSU Facebook page on Wednesday, April 25.
The goal of the theme is to engage the campus community and alumni by capturing the many eras of Southwest. It is being released early so that it gives students a chance to raid their parents’ closets and grandparents’ basements for retro clothing and memorabilia.
