What SMSU RN to BSN Program students have to say about their experience with the program!

I have always felt like a name and not a number.  Multiple staff members have checked on me and helped me through challenging times.  I have always felt like staff wanted me to succeed.  I would recommend the program because of the flexibility, affordability, small-town feel and rural nursing focus.  Also, because of the very personal feeling. -Kelsey Melin

People at SMSU are always available to answer questions, friendly, respond in a timely manner to any questions you may have.  I would recommend the program because it's all online, reasonable tuition, and friendly instructors.  The program courses are applicable to current nursing practice because the BSN is more research based off previously learned knowledge. -Anna L.

I chose the SMSU RN to BSN Program because I have a strong interest in public health as it pertains to rural health.  I appreciate that SMSU is a University within a rural community and was hopeful that attending SMSU would give me valuable education that would support my interest in rural health.  I am an RN in an urban area though with an interest in global/rural health.  The BSN courses address all of these populations!  What I enjoy most about the program is the individual attention from the program.  As a working professional I appreciate being informed and supported on a regular and ongoing basis.  I would absolutely recommend SMSU to other RN's. -Mandy

I would recommend the program because the professors and support staff are kind, supportive, and available.  They are helping me to achieve a higher level of professionalism in a completely online program.  -Michelle Van Meveren

I chose the SMSU RN to BSN Program based upon several factors including class requirements, cost, and what clinched it would be the phone call I had with Dr. Johansen.  The program instructors and peers have been active with discussions and learnings and quick with replies.  -Roxanne Peterson

I would recommend the program because of the great instructors.  The program courses are applicable to current nursing practice because the teaching is standard and focused to nursing practice.  -Caroline Achoki

What I enjoy most about the program is the flexibility in scheduling and advocacy from professors and other faculty making the program enjoyable.  The faculty in all areas are always helpful, kind, and genuinely care about my success as a student, nurse, and person.  -Katie K. Nelson

That personal touch that helped me to commit to SMSU has been prevalent throughout every course I've taken.  The professors have been incredibly responsive and very supportive.  I have been very fortunate to have an extraordinary advisor in Lindsay Rohlik as well. Lindsay has been instrumental in guiding me through decisions about how to best proceed in the program, as well as helping to navigate through the early part of getting back into school.   She's been a tremendous asset for me.  What I enjoy most about the program is the process of deepening my understanding of nursing as a profession, as well as deepening my understanding of evidence based practice.  Having access to a database where I can search research articles has been very fun.  -Keith

The program has well supportive staff especially Stella Nwachukwu, advisor and Dr. Laurie Johanson, Department Chair.  I would recommend the program because it's a nice program, flexible, and has supportive staff, in addition to accommodating working student parents.  The program courses are applicable to current nursing practice because the program is very relevant with my work duties and responsibilities.  It has boosted my knowledge especially in the field of public health nursing, nurse research, cultural competency, rural nursing, and evidence based practices.  -Gladys K. Morara

The SMSU RN to BSN Program is an excellent flexible program.  The program courses are applicable to current nursing practice because they increase your critical and leadership skills.

I chose the SMSU RN to BSN Program because it fit what I was looking for in a BSN program.  I wanted to be in a program where I was able to learn what I needed to learn, but also not feel like I was a number at a school.  I feel as though SMSU knows their students and it shows.  I would recommend the program because SMSU is a school that treats you like a person, and not just a number.  I love that we get little cards in the mail from time to time telling us how they appreciate us.  They know we are students and nurses and treat us as such.  What I enjoy most about the program is the fact that the staff know the students.  They are open to questions and email you back within hours instead of days.  -Trinitie Kedrowski

I would recommend the program because of the supportive staff (like the Nursing Student Services Coordinator because she is so good at her job).  The program courses are applicable to current nursing practice because they are preparing me for more leadership skills and evidence based nursing.  Thank you to Stella for creating my individualized plan that works and continue to work for me.
-Justina Nwakama

I chose SMSU because from the start I felt welcomed and supported.  The process of applying and transferring of my previous college coursework was seamless.  I have and will continue to recommend the SMSU RN to BSN program to other RN's because I have been pleased with every aspect of the program.  If I were to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing.  I am very appreciative of my experience in the SMSU RN to BSN program.  I would like to thank the fabulous SMSU nursing faculty for their support and encouragement throughout my time at SMSU.  -Jessica Cain
