Debi Pack Receives Educator Award

Marshall -- Southwest Minnesota State University graduate Debi Pack is one of the six honorees who have been named this year's recipients of Educator Awards from the Minnesota Academic Excellence Foundation and the WEM Foundation. In the Teacher Achievement Awards category, Debi is one of two honorees recognized for being a teacher who supports, inspires and assists students to achieve despite any barriers to learning.

Many colleagues and parents who nominated Pack described her as a leader and partner within the school, as well as an innovator of new teaching strategies. She was praised for her experience and training as a special education teacher and was also nominated for actively involving parents in support of their children's learning.

Debi has taught special-ed for 10 years and is in her fourth year teaching first grade. Along with the award Pack received, she will also be awarded $10,000 from the WEM Foundation.

Three aspects of Debi's teaching style that probably gave her the edge over other nominees was her use of Malcolm Baldrige principles in the classroom, her grant from Education Minnesota for a guided reading project, and her second year grant for a scrapbooking activity.

Pack will attend an awards banquet Nov. 1 in the Twin Cities in recognition of her achievements.
