Authorization to Release Student Information:

If you want a parent/guardian/family member to receive financial information about your account if they call or email us, you will need to authorize the release of information so we can share that information:

  • Go to www.smsu.edu
  • Click on Menu on upper left side of screen
  • Log into SouthwestNet with your StarID and password
  • Click on the Student Information Release icon
  • you can check all that apply as to how much information you want to release

Direct Deposit:

Some students get financial aid overages after their financial aid is applied to their account. If you would like to receive your overage faster and not have to deal with a paper check and travel to deposit it, sign up for direct deposit.  Log into E-Services, Financial Aid, Direct Deposit Setup, Add Direct Deposit Account. You'll need your bank routing number and checking or savings account number. Easy and fast to set up! The money is in your bank account much faster.

Tax Return Forms:

Would you like your SMSU tax forms (1098-T &/or W-2) as soon as they are available in January rather than having to wait until they come in the mail?

If so, log into E-Services with your StarID and password. On your dashboard, you will see a place to click that says "Sign up now to get your year-end tax form for tuition online". Click and follow the instructions from there. If you don't see that option on your dashboard, you already did consent.

By signing up, you will be able to download and print current and past year 1098-T Tuition Statements and W-2 wage and Tax Statements through your E-Services account.

In January, when the tax forms are available for download, the consenting student will receive both an email and a notice in their E-Services that says "IMPORTANT TAX DOCUMENT AVAILABLE".

All you will need to do is log into E-Services, go to the Bills and Payments tab, then 1098-T Tax Form. For the W-2 (if applicable), you would go to the Student Employment tab, then the W-2 Tax Form tab.

Benefits of signing up include:

  • Quicker access for students to year-end tax forms
  • Can access at any time, can print more than once
  • Less printing and mailing is environmentally friendly
  • The forms won't be lost in the mail or accidentally thrown away, thinking it was junk mail or sent to the wrong address
