SMSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). In order to remain accredited, every ten years the University must be reviewed. The next accreditation review takes place October 20-22, 2014.
Five HLC peer reviewers, who are trained in accreditation and come from other universities in the HLC region, will be on-campus to conduct the review. As required by the HLC, SMSU has written a self-study that reflects on how well we are meeting the criteria for continuing accreditation. When the reviewers come to campus, they will be visiting with members of the University and community about what they have read in the self-study and will determine whether the University continues to meet the criteria for accreditation.
Sending Comments about SMSU to the Higher Learning Commission
As part of the process of seeking reaffirmation of accreditation, SMSU invites any person who wishes to do so to send comments regarding the University to the Higher Learning Commission. This is the "third-party comment" process that the Higher Learning Commission requires. Using the link below, commenters are sent directly to the Higher Learning Commission website, where they can read more information about third-party comment and fill out an online comment form.
Comments may also be mailed to the Commission, following the instructions on their website. Comments are not considered anonymous, although a commenter may inquire about anonymity. Third-party comment closes one month before the review team comes to campus, in order for the Commission to gather the feedback and allow reviewers time to read it. Thus, third-party comment will close on September 20, 2014. Thank you for sharing your views about SMSU.
