Thank you!

Provost Weatherby, HLC Self-Study Coordinator Dr. Lori Baker, and I would like to thank each and every one of you for helping with our comprehensive visit by the HLC Peer Review Team. While we will not receive official notice of the outcome until the review team submits its report at the end of the semester, please know that the team members were impressed by the dedicated faculty, staff, community members, and students with whom they met. They praised SMSU as an institution to be proud of and appreciated the effort that went into preparing and being involved in the visit.

It is clear to us that the visit would not have gone as well as it did without the hard work and involvement of the full University community, not only during these past three days but in the years leading up to the review. The review process has truly been a collaborative effort and an opportunity for learning from each other as well as from the HLC team members. We have accomplished much over the past ten years and look forward to building upon the work of the self-study and the team’s recommendations for the future.

Thank you for your tremendous support. Remember, WE are SMSU!

Click to view the Self-StudySMSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). In order to remain accredited, every ten years the University must be reviewed. The most recent accreditation review took place October 20-22, 2014.

Five HLC peer reviewers, who are trained in accreditation and come from other universities in the HLC region, came to campus to conduct the review. They met with members of the University and community to discuss their experiences with the University and to follow up on information that had been presented to them in the self-study, which they received eight weeks prior to visiting campus. The reviewers will write a recommendation report to the HLC regarding their findings.

The team's recommendation report will be received by the University at the end of the fall semester or beginning of spring semester.  The contents of the report will help SMSU focus elements of its strategic planning for the future. The process is not complete until the summer of 2015 when the HLC takes final action.
