Zarzana is Cowan Award Winner
Dr. James Zarzana, Professor of English at Southwest Minnesota State University, has been named the 2014 recipient of the Cowan Award
The award goes to a faculty or staff member who has made great contributions to SMSU and the region. It is named in honor of Catharine Cowan, the popular SMSU Psychology professor who died in an auto accident on Dec. 22, 2001.

Ground Broken for Track & Field Complex
Southwest Minnesota State University will soon be home to the finest track and field facility in southwest Minnesota.
Ground was broken April 14 for the Marshall Regional Track & Field Complex, and work is expected to be completed by the first week in August, 2014
The complex, located at the old Mattke Field in the northeast part of the campus, will include a nine-lane 400-meter track, a water jump pit, hurdle for the steeplechase and high jump area. An NCAA regulation synthetic turf soccer/football field will also be placed within the track.

Fine Arts Celebration April 3-May 3
The eighth annual Fine Arts Celebration will run from April 3-May 3 at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Vocal and instrumental concerts, theatre productions, readings, student music videos, student writing, art displays, forensics presentations, costume making and more are on the schedule.
“The Fine Arts Celebration provides an opportunity for our students and faculty to showcase their talents” said Dr. John Ginocchio, director of bands at SMSU and the event coordinator. “We encourage people from all over the region to come and attend as many events as they’d like.”
Several ongoing events will take place, including an SMSU faculty art exhibit, a jewelry exhibit and a senior art exhibit.
