CRRS Mentorship Student Receives Awards

Darlene Guse, a second year participant in the SMSU Mentorship Program and CRRS Webmaster, has received several awards in recognition of her accomplishments. As a chemistry major, Darlene has been selected as a Science and Mathematics Scholarship winner. Because of her involvement in co-curricular activities at SMSU, Darlene has also been chosen as a Distinguished Resident Scholarship Recipient.

In addition, Darlene has been accepted to participate in the Mayo Clinic's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program. Each year, 60-70 undergraduate students from around the United States come to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, to work beside both young and established scientists on a broad range of biomedical research questions. The SURF Program allows students the opportunity to conduct their own small research project or work on part of an ongoing research investigation for 10 weeks, develop their technical skills, and participate in a special weekly seminar series that introduces them to rapidly progressing research areas. This summer, Darlene will be working under the Department of Immunology.
