Youth / Education

Amato's recent activities include extensive writing. He completed the book On Foot: A Cultural and Material History of Walking for New York University Press, November, 2004. He also contributed an article, "Little Things Mean A Lot: The History of Things, or Histories of Everything," to the July/August 2004 edition of The Historical Society's Historically Speaking.

Most recently, Amato has been active giving talks. Aside from recent talks on his forthcoming book on family history to genealogical societies at Marshall and Mankato, he has given keynote addresses at a national cemetery society in Minneapolis and has spoken on his book On Foot: A History of Walking at the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto.

Amato looks forward to speaking at Detroit and at the University of Michigan in April on the history of walking and walking in Detroit in the 1940's and 1950's. Additionally, he has three forthcoming articles in a new encyclopedia of European history and three book reviews in the Journal of Social History.
