The standard IRS mileage rate for the business use of an employee’s personal automobile will decrease on January 1, 2017 to 53.5 cents per mile.
Please keep in mind there are two options provided for determining the mileage reimbursement rate for any given trip:
•If the employee travels in her/his own vehicle because no SMSU vehicle is available the reimbursement rate is the current IRS rate
*(54 cents per mile for miles driven in 2016 and 53.5 in 2017)
-•If a SMSU vehicle is offered but the employee declines and travels in her/his own vehicle, the reimbursement rate is $.07 less than the current rate.
With the state contract for the rental of cars from Enterprise, a vehicle should normally be available.
