SMSU to Host Numerous Athletic Camps

SMSU will host a variety of athletic camps this summer, beginning with a Mini Mustang basketball camp June 13-16. Hundreds of student athletes entering grades K-12 from around the region will participate in activities to improve their fundamental skills and learn advanced techniques.
This year SMSU offers six different sport camps, including baseball, boys and girls basketball, football, track and field, and volleyball. All camps will be held on the campus of SMSU.
The wheelchair basketball camp kicked things off and was held June 7-11 on campus. This was a new addition to the camp schedule.
Boys basketball camps begin June 13-16 with the Mini Mustang Session I for grades K-4. The Post-Perimeter Elite Camp for grades 7-12 is scheduled for June 26-29. The Advanced Skills Camp for grades 5-6 will be held June 30-July 1, and Mini Mustang Session II for grades K-6 will complete the summer August 1-4.
Girls basketball camps start June 24-26 with the Girls Overnight Skills Camp for athletes entering grades 5-8. The Girls Day Camp for Grades K-4 will be July 6-8, and the Traditional Team Camp for grades 9-12 will be held July 9-10. A Girls Day Clinic Camp is scheduled for August 17, and is open to athletes entering grades K-6.
The numerous SMSU football camps start off with the 2016 OL/DL Big Man Camp on June 14, and the Quarterback & Wide Receiver/Tight End Camp on June 15. Both of these camps are open to athletes entering grades 9-12. The 2016 Youth Football Camp for athletes entering grades 1-6 will be held June 16-17. In July, two additional football camps will be held for grades 9-12: the 2016 Individual Skills Camp (All Positions) on July 11, and the Team Football Camp on July 27-29.
The 2016 Track & Field Camp is offered for athletes entering grades 8-12. It will be held on June 26-27, at the Marshall Regional Track & Field Complex.
SMSU volleyball camps start with the Intermediate Skills and Position Camp for athletes entering grades 7-11 on July 11-14. The Advanced Skills and Position Camp for grades 8-12 will be held July 15-17 and the Team Instructional Camp for varsity teams is scheduled for July 18-21. The Young Mustangs Camp for grades K-6 will finish the volleyball camp schedule July 25-27.
The SMSU baseball program will host a Prospect Camp at Alumni Field on Thursday, Aug. 4, for players in grades 9-12. The camp is conducted like a pro-style showcase. Each player will showcase their ability defensively and offensively in front of the SMSU coaching staff and representatives from select schools.
