African Night 2019 is April 20 at SMSU

The Southwest Minnesota State University African Student Association and the Black Student Union will present “African Night 2019: The Met Gala,” on Saturday, April 20 from 5-10 p.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom.

The event ‘s goal is to educate those in attendance about the various cultures in Africa that contribute to the diversity and inclusion at SMSU, and the region.

There are only 200 tickets available for this event and they are $5 apiece. Tickets can be purchased in advance by stopping by the AOS and ODI Office in Commons East, or contacting abidemi.folorunso@smsu.edu or Samuel.wreh@smsu.edu. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

The dinner for the event will be from 5-7 p.m. Food will consist of traditional African cuisine such as Jollof Rice, Cassava Leaves and more.

A variety of performances will be underway from 7-10 p.m. and will include dance, drama, singing, poetry readings, and spoken word.

Attire is traditional African dress. If you are unable to find African dress, male attendees are asked to wear a tux or suit, and female attendees a dress to this formal event.
