Summer Sessions

The Upward Bound Summer Sessions are available to participating students during the month of June and July. Summer Sessions offer a variety of experiences for students, from academic coursework and career exploration to cultural awareness and travel opportunities. Summer 2022 has a theme of Around the World. Learning about art, food, language, and other cultural experiences around the world!

Summer Sessions include six weeks of interactive and supervised educational sessions consisting of:

  • Literature
  • English
  • Reading
  • Science
  • Language
  • Math/Algebra
  • ACT Preparation
  • Life Skills
  • College Visits
  • Environmental Learning
  • Field Trips

Orientation and move-in day is yet to be determined for the 2022 summer session. Students will live in the dorms at SMSU during the summer session, Monday through Friday, and will go home for the weekends. However, students living in Marshall are provided with the option of sleeping at their homes during the week, given they have reliable transportation to the university to participate in the academic work and other educational activities throughout the Summer Session. During the summer session, Upward Bound students will have opportunities to participate in college visits, museum tours, historical site visits, and overnight hotel stays.
