SMSU Shooting Sports Club will compete in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) under the USACCTL (USA College Clay Target League), with 20 other institutions across the state.

As a member of MCAC, student athletes will have the opportunity to compete during a six-week fall and a nine week spring season. Student athletes who have earned their firearms safety certification will participate in a “virtual” trap shooting competition among MCAC member colleges.

Clay Target is fully Title IX compliant with both male and female athletes competing on the same team. Additionally it’s an ‘adaptive’ sport, which allows students with physical disabilities to take part.

Competitions will be conducted at a local range near Marshall with scores uploaded weekly to the league’s website. MCAC conferences are determined by team size, and True Team® scoring is used to maximize the number of student athlete scores that are used for the team score. The Fall and Spring seasons culminate with the MCAC Trap Shooting Championship.

Current SMSU students will have the opportunity to sign-up for the club and learn more at the Spring Activities Fair on January 22, 2020 in the Student Center Upper Level from 11am to 1pm.

Mike Lenz, Assistant Professor of Theatre, is the faculty advisor for the club. Interested students, both current and prospective, can submit the interest form to learn more.
