Southwest Minnesota State University will celebrate Winter Festival with a series of events Feb. 1-7, 2016. This year’s theme is “Basic Snowman #LetsGetFrosty.”

Winter Festival, formerly known as Winter Meltdown, is an SMSU tradition, a time for students, faculty and staff to participate in fun activities to help beat the ‘winter blues.’

The week is culminated by the traditional Hawaiian Night basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 6 against Minnesota Crookston. The Mustang women play at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.

Daniel Martin will present his mentalist act Tuesday, Feb. 2 in the lower level Conference Center beginning at 9 p.m.

The Frangela Comedy Duo will perform on Thursday, Feb. 4 in the Conference Center lower level beginning at 9 p.m.

Other events this year include Spa Day on Feb. 3, featuring students from the Minnesota West Pipestone salon program; The Relax Crew on Feb. 3, highlighted by an oxygen bar, aqua massage beds and calf massagers; Live at the Landing musical entertainment; a photo booth; movies; and a chance for students to make their own leis. T-shirts will also be sold for $5 in the lower level Student Center from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. through Feb. 4, or until sold out.

Monday, Feb. 1: The Traveling Photo Booth, Student Center Lower Level, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 2: Funny T’s and Pictures Too, Student Center lower level, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Mentalist Daniel Martin, Conference Center Lower Level, 9 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 3: Spa Day, Minnesota West Pipestone Salon Crew, Student Center upper level, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Relax Crew, 2 aqua massage beds, Oxygen Bar and 3 Calf Massagers, Student Center Lower Level west entrance, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; movie, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2,” Student Center lower level TV lounge, 6:30 and 9 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 4: Make Your Own Leis, Student Center lower level, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; Live at the Landing entertainment, 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.; Frangela Comedy Duo, Conference Center lower level, 9 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 5: Women’s and men’s basketball vs. Bemidji State, 6 and 8 p.m.; Movie, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2,” Student Center lower level TV lounge, 6:30 and 9 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 6: Hawaiian Night. Women’s and men’s basketball vs. Minnesota Crookston, 5 and 7 p.m.; Mustang wrestling vs. Minot State, PE Gym, 7 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 7: Super Bowl 50: Panthers vs. Broncos, Student Center Mustang Zone, 5 p.m. until game ends

Prospective students are also invited to campus for an open house program from 1-3:30 p.m. on Feb. 6. The program will include Admissions presentation, Student Services Fair, student/parent panel sessions and a campus tour. Students who apply for admission will have their application fee waived.
