The SMSU Theatre Program’s spring production is J.B. Priestley’s classic detective drama, An Inspector Calls. Performances are April 10–13 at 7:30 pm and April 14 at 2 pm in the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. Seating is first-come, first-served. Admission is free for SMSU employees and students with valid ID. Free and convenient parking is available in lot B-1.

In this mystery with a message, the enigmatic Inspector Goole interrupts a family celebration to interrogate the well-to-do Birling family about the death of a young woman. One startling revelation after another drives the family – and the audience – to consider how our actions impact the lives of those around us.

An Inspector Calls is directed by Professor Nadine Purvis Schmidt of Estelline, So. Dak., who is also the producer. Assistant Professor of Theatre Tetta M. Askeland of Marshall, Minn. is the co-scenic designer and technical director. Olivia Houseman, a freshman Theatre Arts major from Marshall, Minn., is the stage manager.

The cast and production team also includes the following students and alumni:

  • Alexander Duus, a senior Broadcasting and Digital Media major and Acting/Directing and Filmmaking double minor from Tyler, Minn., plays Gerald Croft.
  • Colton Jensen, a senior Theatre Arts major and Political Science minor from Sanborn, Minn., plays Eric Birling and is also the lighting designer.
  • Priscilla Muehr, a freshman Theatre Arts major from Luverne, Minn., plays Sheila Birling.
  • Amelia Reid, a freshman Environmental Science major from Eden Valley, Minn., plays Mrs. Sybil Birling.
  • Jim Radloff, an SMSU alum in English Literature and Acting/Directing (undergraduate), and Education (graduate), and an English teacher for grades 7-10 at Minnesota Valley Area Learning Center, plays Mr. Arthur Birling.
  • Katelynn Rolla, a sophomore Elementary Education major from Edgerton, Minn., plays Edna.
  • Jordan Stangeland, an SMSU Theatre Arts and Psychology alum from Marshall, Minn., plays Inspector Goole.
  • Laura Bradley, a sophomore Secondary Education-History major and Theatre Arts minor from Brooklyn Park, Minn., is the props designer.
  • Kayla Browen, a freshman Music Education major from Worthington, Minn., is an assistant stage manager.
  • Brooke Burns, a senior Theatre Arts major and Entrepreneurship minor from Russell, Minn., is the sound designer.
  • Sariah Cheadle, an SMSU Theatre Arts alum of Marshall, Minn., is the dramaturg and lobby display designer.
  • Bernyse Leach, a freshman Professional Writing and Environmental Science double major from Marshall, Minn., is an assistant stage manager.
  • Bryn Mongeau, a senior Theatre Arts and Music double major from Beaver Creek, Minn., is the co-scenic designer and paint charge.

An Inspector Calls is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection.
