SMSU Hosts Children's/High School Theatre Productions, June 12-13

Southwest Minnesota State University, in partnership with Marshall Community Services and P.S. Productions, will host the annual productions by the SMSU Children’s Theatre on Friday, June 12 and the High School Theatre Workshop on Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13.

Led by SMSU Theatre Professor Sheila Tabaka since 2018, the SMSU Children’s Theatre Workshop provides acting, production, and costuming opportunities for grades 3-8 and for grades 9-12 through the High School Theatre Workshop every summer. 

The SMSU Children’s Theatre began Monday, June 1, with workshops each day Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-12:00 pm. The High School Workshop also started June 1, meeting Monday-Friday from 1:30-4:30 pm at the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre. The culmination of the workshops is the public performances on June 12-13. 

The SMSU Children’s Theatre, in conjunction with Marshall Community Services, has been working on the production of Twinderella: The Musical,  based on a book by Charlie Lovett with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur. The production is sponsored by Fixen Chiropractic and the SMSU Child Care Center.

The SMSU High School Theatre Workshop has been preparing for its production of Door to Door by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus, presented in conjunction with Marshall Community Services and P.S. Productions.  

The SMSU Children’s Theatre Workshop presents Twinderella: The Musical on Friday, June 12 at 9:30 am, 11:00 am, and 6:30 pm.  The High School Theatre Workshop presents Door to Door on Friday, June 12 at 8:00 pm and Saturday, June 13 at 1:00 pm. Admission for all shows is ‘pay what you can’ at the door. All performances are in the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre and are open to the public.
