Faculty Accomplishments: Dr. Eric Doise
Associate Professor of English Dr. Eric Doise presented at the annual Midwest Modern Languages Association Conference last semester. His presentation was entitled, “Signs of Violence on Human and Non-Human Bodies in Jesmyn Ward’s Salvage the Bones.” The presentation investigated the relationship between the human-inflicted wounds on the novel’s natural world and the novel’s African-American characters. Doise argued that Ward uses violence against nature to illustrate the legacy of environmental racism in the U.S., as well as how African-Americans have resisted this violence even while being traumatized by it.
