Southwest Stories: Melinda Kassandra Lopez (Season 2, Episode 1)

Melinda Kassandra Lopez has been on the fast-track towards medical school since completing her Bachelor of Science Degree from SMSU’s RN to BSN program at the age of 19. Lopez became the youngest student to graduate with an Associate Degree in Nursing from Minnesota West Community and Technical College at the age of 17 - 16 days before she received her high school diploma from Fairmont High School.

Upon graduating from SMSU in December of 2020, Lopez returned to Fairmont and entered the workforce as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Mayo Clinic Health System. This fall she will continue pursuing her passion for medicine and fulfilling her life-long dream of becoming a doctor, as she has been accepted to the University of Minnesota-Duluth medical school Class of 2025.
