For Edin Hamilton, SMSU felt like home from the moment she arrived on campus. “I came to SMSU because of the family nature this campus has,” Edin said. “I feel like I am at home when I am here, rather than just another face in a sea of students.”

As a future math educator, Edin looks forward to inspiring the next generation. “I’m going to school to be a teacher. I see myself making a difference in many students’ lives by being a mentor for them and someone they can rely on.”

Edin is the recipient of a McFarland Presidential scholarship, a gift that has eased the financial burden of college and allowed her to focus fully on her education and future career, as well as her interest in music. Thanks to the financial support from this scholarship, she is able to make the most of her time on campus. She participates in the SMSU Chamber Winds Ensemble and takes part in social events like Grocery Bingo hosted by the Student Activities Committee.

“If I could speak to Pat McFarland, I would want to say a massive thank you,” Edin said. “This scholarship has really lightened the financial burden that college is. I can’t even begin to express what this scholarship means for me and my future.”
