SMSU Chorale Accompanist Honored by ACDA-MN (8/19/2020)
The SMSU Choirs are extremely proud to announce that our own accompanist extraordinaire, Stacey Bosveld, has been named as the winner of the 2020 Ace Award for the Southwest District of the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota.
First presented in 2008 by the ACDA-MN Board of Directors, the ACE (Advocate for Choral Excellence) Award was established to recognize the outstanding efforts of individuals who support the choral art in their communities.
About Stacey, Dr. Stephen Kingsbury, SMSU’s Director of Choral Activities, writes, “Stacey currently lives in Ghent with her husband Mark, her two children Elizabeth and Joe and her step-daughter, Michaela. Stacey is a multi-instrumentalist who has played piano, flute and percussion with the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra and piano and baritone saxophone with the Minneota Community Jazz Band. However, it is as a pianist and accompanist that Stacey has really left a mark in the choral community in southwest Minnesota. After moving to the area in 1994, Stacey began playing at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. It was at that time that she also started accompanying the choirs at Marshall Junior High School and SMSU. She began accompanying the Chancel Choir at First Lutheran Church in Marshall in 2001. She has also played for numerous musicals in Marshall and at the Opera House in Lake Benton. For several of these productions she severed as Music Director. Today, Stacey serves as the accompanist of the SMSU Chorale. She also is the accompanist/coach for several of the voice students at SMSU. Stacey is a remarkable accompanist, who has supported not only my work for the past decade, but who is an active and fundamental support for our students. On top of it all, she is an amazing human being who brings a striving for profound excellence as well as an incredible sense of humor to each and every rehearsal.”
Typically, the ACE Award is presented at the Awards Banquet at the Annual ACDA-MN Summer Dialogue, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s award was presented by ACDA-MN’s Southwest District Chair, Chad Felton, at a brief ceremony at Stacey’s home in Ghent. We hope you will help us in congratulating Stacey for this incredible honor.
