Summer Graduate Art Classes

Art teachers earn up to 11 graduate credits this summer!

Southwest Minnesota State University is pleased to announce the following graduate art courses for summer 2019.
Courses are open to those interested in furthering knowledge and skills in the world of Art!

  • For concurrent enrollment teachers, these classes will count towards HLC credentialing requirements
  • These courses will also count towards a master’s degree in Education

ART 521 - Advanced Problems in Painting.....4 Credits

Hybrid/Mostly Online June 3 – August 9 with required on-campus sessions (Marshall, MN) June 17-20 from 8AM-Noon

This low residency graduate studio class is a hybrid experience of online and on campus study. This course is designed to give students a focused experience working within a topic while allowing them to develop a body of work that reflects research, an advanced skill level and personal content. This class is a hybrid combining online and on campus segments to allow students to develop a body of work related to a topic/process over the summer session. The class is structured in three parts.

ART 543 - Advanced Photography.....4 Credits

Hybrid/Mostly Online June 3 – August 9 with required on-campus sessions (Marshall, MN) June 17-20 from 1PM-5PM

This low residency graduate studio class is a hybrid experience of online and on campus study. This course is designed to give students a focused experience working within a topic while allowing them to develop a body of work that reflects research, an advanced skill level and personal content.

ART 551 - Research Methods in Art History.....3 Credits

Completely Online June 3 – August 9

This is an advanced art history class focusing on research methods while furthering knowledge in special topics in art history.

* The Advanced Problems in Painting and Advanced Photography courses are low residency or “hybrid” offerings being held mostly online with just 4 days on campus. Studio sessions are conveniently set up to allow you to enroll in both courses and make the most of your time on-campus!
