  1. Return to Campus Fall 2022:

    What changes will be made in classrooms in the fall?

    1. Occupancy levels of classrooms will return to pre-COVID status
    2. Physical Distancing will not be required
    3. Plexiglass shields will be left in the classrooms for optional use
  2. Well Fitted Masks:

    • Current Community Levels in Lyon County are low and no longer warrant wearing a mask indoors. People may however choose to mask at any time.  People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask in accordance with current CDC Guidelines for Isolation and Quarantine.
  3. Domestic Travel:

    There are no current domestic travel restrictions. Out of State travel requests by students, faculty, or staff should continue to follow existing campus procedures.

  4. International Travel:

    International travel for employees, requires approval by the university president. Approval for international travel may be granted to countries under a level 1 or level 2 travel advisory from the US Department of State. Travel to level 3 or level 4 countries will continue to require prior approval from the system office (System Procedure 5.19.3).

SMSU will continue to monitor the CDC, MDH, and Minnesota State information for COVID-19 changes and will update the webpages as changes occur.

Q:

Do I need to wear a mask on campus at SMSU?

A:

Southwest Minnesota State University no longer requires masks indoors on campus. Following CDC guidance, current Community Levels in Lyon County are low and no longer warrant wearing a mask indoors. People may however choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask. The policy change is effective immediately.

Q:

Will vaccines be required for faculty and staff at SMSU?

A:

Effective September 8th, 2021 all faculty and staff will be required to provide proof of vaccination or submit to weekly COVID-19 testing. For more details view the State of Minnesota COVID-19 proof of vaccination and testing policy.

Q:

What if I was exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19?

A:

Faculty and Staff who have been exposed to a Covid-19 positive case or have tested positive should follow the guidelines for quarantine and isolation. They should contact their supervisor and the Human Resources office at 507-537-6812 or by email at HR@SMSU.edu. Human Resources can assist in determining if they need to quarantine or isolate.
