Hunger Taskforce Committee

The Hunger Taskforce Committee shall be dedicated to addressing food insecurity concerns by centering the student voice and providing dignified food access to students. In order to prioritize student voices, the Hunger Taskforce Committee is intentionally structured to ensure that students comprise the majority of its membership. Representation includes the graduate assistants from Student Senate and the Mustang Market, the current student body president, four (4) students appointed by Student Associate, and one (1) member from each bargaining unit. Responsibilities of the Hunger Taskforce Committee include: 

  1. Organizing at least one hunger awareness event each academic year 
  2. Coordinating with the University to ensure there is a designated staff person on campus to educate students on SNAP and other public services aimed to reduce food insecurity. 
  3. Notify students in work-study employment of their potential eligibility for SNAP benefits and provide information to those students that include eligibility criteria and how to apply for benefits.  
  4. Re-apply for Hunger free campus designation every four years 
  5. Assess barriers to students using current on and off campus resource 
  6. Create and distribute survey to students to get more specific understanding of food needs 
  7. Research and find options for distributing culturally appropriate foods
