Mustang Market

It can be challenging to do your best in class if you have trouble meeting basic needs like safe shelter, sleep, and nutrition. If you have difficulty affording groceries or accessing sufficient food to eat every day, the Mustang Market is here to support you! Mustang Market is SMSU’s permanent food and resource pantry, located in Bellows Academic 154. The market is open Thursdays from noon-7pm. All food and supplies dispensed to students are free and are meant to supplement limited food budgets while in school.

The Mustang Market's Grand Opening Celebration will be Thursday, September 18th, 2025 from 10am-noon. All are welcome to tour the new space and the recent improvements before buisness hours begin at noon.

Give Back - Volunteering and Donations

Volunteers are essential to make sure the market operates smoothly. If you're interested in volunteering to help run a market day, please complete the following form.

Donations of new and gently used SMSU Mustang Apparel, hats, gloves, scarves, and blankets can be dropped off at The Elizabeth Lockwood SMSU Alumni and Visitor Center (1430 East College Dr.) Tuesdays and Wednesdays, between 10am and 2pm.

Want to organize a food or supply drive to support the Mustang Market? Contact the Mustang Market Coordinator at MustangMarket@smsu.edu for a list of the most commonly needed items to date or theme ideas for your food drive. Themed drives make a larger impact, supplementing food or supplies for one specific category or item.

SNAP

Need more money for groceries? SNAP is a federal program that provides food-purchasing assistance with the aim of reducing food insecurity & improving nutrition, and supporting economic stability for individuals and families. SNAP enables individuals to buy healthy, nutritious foods at local grocery stores, convenience stores, farmers markets, and online through Amazon and Walmart. Checking your eligibility comes with no risk, so it's worth exploring!

We know filling out the SNAP application can feel overwhelming. You can get help from a trained SNAP specialist or apply on your own here

Partners

The Mustang Market is grateful for its many local, regional, and statewide partnerships in support of addressing food insecurity in our campus community. We are always seeking partnerships for financial support, retail rescue of items, and excess locally grown produce and meat, as well as pre-packaged meals from local restaurants. Please connect with the Mustang Market Coordinator at MustangMarket@smsu.edu if you are interested in partnering with us!
