Chartwells, a subsidiary of Compass Group USA, has completed its $1.6 million-dollar renovation of the dining facilities located in the lower Student Center of SMSU. The project started on Monday, May 8th, 2017 and reached its completion on Friday, June 30th, 2017.  The newly-remodeled facility will seat approximately 400 guests, just over double the seating from the original 180.

Within the renovation, the old Food Court/C-Store has now become a part of the Residential Restaurant, or main dining area. The original facility had a total of seven stations to choose from but now there will be 10 different stations, with each being a designation station. A few of the new area's options are G8 Vegetarian, All Day Breakfast Grill, Hearth Stone Oven, and a Carved Meat Station.  Hours of operation for the new Residential Restaurant will be from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Food Court and C-Store are not gone, though, they have just been redesigned and moved next to the Coffee House at SMSU. Mondo Sub's — the new grab-and-go option — is a sub, wrap and soup brand that will operate throughout the week with a rotating menu of Mexican-inspired foods and pizza on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Hours of operation for Mondo Sub's will be 11 a.m.-9 p.m. every day.

The new and improved C-Store will offer more variety, along with a better location to help improve traffic flow during the lunch and dinner hours. Students and staff will still have the option to use their Dining Dollars with their meal plan at both of these locations, but can also pay with cash or card. Hours of operation for the C-Store are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. every day.

The Coffee House at SMSU is in its former location and has undergone a facelift. The menu and Starbucks brand drinks and pastries will remain the same. Hours of operation will be 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

New technology has been incorporated into the renovation. All locations will have digital menu boards displaying what food choices at each location. Also, Chartwells has a new, improved app for iPhone and Android, which shows the menu, gives the option to send feedback to the staff, as well as see any specials and events. To download the app, go to your app store and search for, "Dine on Campus.”  Once you have downloaded the app, search for "Southwest Minnesota State University" and you will be able to see all the relevant information for Chartwells at SMSU.
