A planned power outage is scheduled for the entire campus Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18, 2025, for preventative maintenance work to SMSU’s electrical switches and transformers. On Saturday and Sunday, the entire campus is expected to be without electrical power starting at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday and brought back on-line by 9:00 p.m. Sunday. It may be back on earlier, but we ask that you plan for 9:00 p.m. Sunday. This power outage affects all academic, administrative, athletic, and residence hall buildings but does not include the Foundation Apartments.
Because we want to ensure the safety and security of our faculty, staff, students and facilities, the electrical contractors and limited authorized staff will be the only people allowed in the buildings or on the grounds during the power outage. The entire campus is closed to the public at this time.
Faculty and staff are advised to power off and unplug from wall outlets all electrical appliances on or before Friday, May 16 (e.g. computers, monitors, printers, faxes, refrigerators) prior to the all-campus power outage to avoid potential damage to equipment. Phones do not need to be unplugged. Please clean out refrigerators as food can spoil while the power is off. Please also have drip pans or towels available for your refrigerator if defrosting will occur.
Some of this work is weather dependent therefore backup dates for this work are Saturday and Sunday May 24-25, 2025. If you have any questions concerning this outage, please contact Tony Nubile, Director of Facilities at 507-537-7328 or Tony.Nubile@smsu.edu.
Thank you for your cooperation.
