Talent Search Scholarships

Congratulations! As a TRIO Upward Bound / Talent Search senior or former TRIO Upward Bound / Talent Search student, you have proven that you aspire to achieve.

Participating in a pre-college program gives you an educational advantage that others simply don’t have. Southwest Minnesota State University would like to recognize your hard work and commitment by making a scholarship available to you. As a qualified Minnesota TRIO Upward Bound / Talent Search student, you are eligible for a tuition-only scholarship in the amount of $4,000! That means $500 Fall Semester and $500 Spring Semester for up to four years through your educational journey at SMSU.

Award Qualifications

Automatic Freshman Scholarship

To qualify for the automatic freshman scholarship, students must:

  • Apply for admission to SMSU by July 1, 2022
  • Submit an official high school transcript (sent from the school)
  • Submit a letter of verification of participation in Upward Bound/Talent Search. The letter should be from your Upward Bound/Talent Search Advisor/Coordinator
  • At the time of applying to SMSU, must possess a GPA of 2.8 or higher in high school coursework
  • Graduate high school and submit a final high school transcript
  • Register as and maintain full-time status

Continuation of the award is contingent upon achievement of good academic standing as defined by SMSU to be 2.0 GPA or higher. Continuing as a full-time student.

Transfer Scholarship

To qualify for the transfer scholarship, students must:

  • Apply for admission to SMSU by July 1, 2022
  • Submit an official college transcript demonstrating attainment of a minimum GPS of 2.5
  • Submit a letter of verification of participation in Upward Bound/Talent Search. The letter should be from your Upward Bound/Talent Search Advisor/Coordinator
  • Register as and maintain full-time status
