Mustang Checklist

Congratulations on being admitted to SMSU! Here is a checklist of items for you to complete prior to beginning your first semester. Click the box next to the items as you complete them to keep track of your progress. You can bookmark this page and return to the page to review your progress.

1. Apply for Housing


Complete Housing Contract and Application ASAP. $100 refundable deposit required, Priority Deadline: March 1st

2. Choose your meal plan


SMSU Campus Dining. Choose a meal plan that best fits your needs and then eat your heart out at the SMSU Food Hall, State Street Subs, the C-Store and the Coffee House! Every day you will have plenty of options to get the energy you need to attack the day!

Living on campus. You will choose your meal plan while filling out your housing application.

Communiting to campus. Go to the Mustang Card Center on campus to select and purchase your meal plan.

3. Paying for college


Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): Priority Deadline is January 1st

You can file your FAFSA using your 2018 tax return information beginning October 1. For more information visit

4. Apply for scholarships


Complete the Mustang Scholarship Application online

Scholarship Offers will be made the 1st week of each month starting in September. Students need to be admitted and meet qualifications to receive award.

5. Attend an Admitted Student Day


These programs are exclusive to students who have been admitted to SMSU.

6. Submit required health forms


Complete the required immunization (e-form or PDF) and medical history report form (PDF Only): Deadline: By the 1st day of class

7. Transcripts


Submit an official final transcript

Deadline: Freshman - After graduation. Transfer - After final grades have been posted from each post-secondary school attended
