Tips for Presenters

  • All sessions will be hosted/moderated by an SMSU faculty member – they will introduce you and your talk and ensure that you stay on time – they will also cut you off if you surpass the 15 minute time limit!

 

  • Unless you have an unavoidable conflict, plan to be in your Zoom Room at least 5 minutes prior to the start of the session block and to stay for the duration of all session presentations – this is good conference etiquette and will give you the opportunity to learn of the work completed by your peers and to support them.

 

  • Even though this is a virtual presentation, please plan to dress for the occasion (professional or business casual attire) and to use your web camera as you present – you will connect more and make a better impression on your audience this way.

 

  • Ensure the environment you are presenting in is free of distractions (roommates, pets, distracting backgrounds etc.). Plan to present in a comfortable, quite space with a reasonably neutral background.

 

  • Practice! The more you practice, the more comfortable.

 

  • Please feel free to invite your family and friends to attend this virtual event! You’ve worked hard, and should be proud to show off your work.
