The Wellness & Human Performance Center – Graduate Assistant

Job Description

The Graduate Assistant position for the Wellness & Human Performance Center at SMSU includes responsibilities in corporate wellness, human performance, coordination, and scheduling. The position also involves assisting Exercise Science faculty with lab setup, lab activities, and lectures requiring demonstrations or lab experiences. This position will work with the Director of the Wellness & Human Performance Center, Exercise Science faculty, and Exercise Science students.

1. Provide general management of the Wellness & Human Performance Center office and laboratory spaces.
2. Work with SMSU Scheduling to ensure smooth coordination of Exercise Science courses and labs with other Wellness & Human Performance Center activities.
3. Coordinate corporate wellness and adult fitness offerings with corporate clients and Exercise Science students.
4. Assist with lectures and labs as needed at faculty request.
5. Schedule private and small-group exercise testing and training sessions for student wellness trainers and corporate clients.
6. Plan a calendar of events for each semester's corporate wellness offerings.
7. Serve as a liaison between the Exercise Science Program and various corporate wellness directors.
8. Oversee work-study and regular payroll student employees in the Wellness & Human Performance Center.
9. Assist with efforts to recruit high school students to become SMSU Exercise Science majors.

Requirements

This position requires a BS degree in Exercise Science and passing the ACSM EP-C exam or the NSCA CSCS exam. The exam fee will be paid upon proof of certification.

Experience coordinating and staffing a variety of part-time programs, preferably in the fitness field, is required. The highly qualified candidate will have demonstrated ability to organize multiple schedules and facilities. Management experience with young adults, experience with human performance training or coaching of novice to elite athletic performers, experience in wellness programming, and an appreciation of service-learning are all integral to the position. The candidate should also have a demonstrated ability to work well with young people and the public.
