Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Service for Colleges and Universities
Educational Opportunity
Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) has a solution-state, high-resolution, 300 MHz, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer with a dual proton (1H) and carbon-13 (13C) probe. We are offering an NMR service to Colleges and Universities that are interested in using this technology for their students.
Applications for Industry and Education
NMR is used to determine molecular structures in several important fields, including medical, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, food science, organic, and biochemical industries. It is often taught in undergraduate chemistry laboratories. With our service, you can incorporate NMR in your courses as well.
Available Services
We can offer several NMR services to best suit the needs of your instructors and students:
1. Instructors can mail compounds (about 60 mg each; solid or liquid) to us. Our NMR spectroscopist will prepare and run the samples, and then email the spectra back to you.
2. Or we can email the raw NMR data to you. You then download the software from the manufacturer (for free academic use) and have your students process their own spectra.
3. We can also provide you with directions to have your students prepare their own NMR samples for additional experience. You can then mail us the prepared samples to run.
4. Finally, we can offer field trips to our NMR facility. Our spectroscopist would provide training and have your students run their own spectra in small groups.
Pricing
Send us one compound, or many compounds. Prepare your own NMR samples for reduced cost. Mix and match the spectra. The following options can be combined to fit your budget:
Services | Pricing |
---|---|
Sample preparation (includes NMR solvent) | $30 per sample |
One-dimensional, proton (1H) NMR | $120 per spectrum |
One-dimensional, coupled or decoupled, carbon-13 (13C) NMR | $150 per spectrum |
Two-dimensional, absolute value H,H-Correlation (COSY) NMR | $200 per spectrum |
Two-dimensional, absolute value C,H-Heteronuclear Correlation | $250 per spectrum |
Half-day field trip (includes: training, all materials, and spectra) | $400 |
Timeframe
The timeframe for an order depends on the number of compounds/samples received and the number of spectra requested. Payment is not processed until your order has been completed.
