Getting Started

Wherever you are in your academic journey, we ask that you follow the process below to start receiving accommodations for barriers to learning due to disability limitations.  This includes:

  • incoming first-year students
  • current students
  • online only students
  • extended campus students

The Process

Students with disabilities do not have to report or identify themselves to Accessibility Services unless they want to request accommodations for their disability limitations.  For those who are seeking accommodations, there are three steps:

  1. Review the New Student Information
  2. Provide documentation via email (accessibilityservices@smsu.edu) or drop off at Individualized Learning 220.
  3. Schedule a meeting with Accessibility Services at 507-537-6492.

Current (within the past three years) documentation of disability is preferred, and ideally, should be provided before the meeting to establish accommodations.  Detailed information about what we seek in this paperwork can be found without our Documentation Guidelines.  Any information or documentation regarding the disability is kept confidential.
