Peer Notetakers

Some students need peer note takers due to the functional limitations of their disability. Your involvement recruitment of a classmate as a note taker is crucial to this accommodation. Please be in communication with Accessibility Services if you are having difficulty obtaining a student note taker. Not providing this accommodation is not an option. After an eligible student has submitted a note taker request to Accessibility Services, we will contact the professor and ask that they make a class announcement requesting a volunteer.

Audio Recording

Accessibility Services, where appropriate, may recommend that a student with a qualifying disability be permitted to audio record class lectures; via phone, laptop or a recorder, as an academic accommodation. Use of the accommodation of audio recording class lectures is subject to the following conditions:

  1. Recording of class lectures are only for the student’s personal use in study and preparation related to the class.
  2. The student may not share these recordings with any other person, whether or not that person is in the class.
  3. The student acknowledges that the recordings are sources, the used of which in any academic work is governed by the rules of academic conduct.
  4. The student agrees to destroy any recordings that were made when they are no longer needed for academic work.

Some classes involve discussions of confidential material which is not appropriate to be audio-recorded.

Students who have been granted permission to audio record class lectures as an accommodation must agree in writing to abide by each of these provisions. Eligible students should notify Accessibility Services which class they intend to record and sign an agreement prior to using this accommodation. This agreement will be sent to the professor.
