Student Resources

“Education is knowing where to go to find out what you need to know; and it’s knowing how to use the information you get"

SMSU Resources

Southwest Minnesota State University has wonderful resources at no cost to students which we encourage students to use.

Deeann Griebel Student Success Center

The Deeann Griebel Student Success Center at Southwest Minnesota State University thrives to equitably engage each student during their experience at SMSU. They holistically support students in achieving their academic, social and professional success.

Student Health Services

Health Services provided free and confidential services, including medical evaluation, for registered students.  There is a small fee for lab tests, certain medications, supplies and sports physicals. They also assist students with off-campus referrals as needed.

Mental Health Counseling Center

College is a time of change that can be very exciting as well as very stressful and challenging. Stress, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, loneliness, or other personal issues can affect students’ well-being.  SMSU Mental Health Counseling Center is staffed by mental health professionals who provide confidential, short-term counseling to enrolled students.  Students do not have to be in a crisis to access counseling services.

Student Support Services

Southwest Minnesota State University recognizes that there are many students who experience challenges in their lives outside of the classroom that may create stress and anxiety which impacts their academic performance.  Challenges may include accessing enough food to eat every day, safe and stable housing, issues with childcare, family obligations, physical and mental health, unexpected bills or issues with accessing technology.

As a student, your safety, health, and well-being are our primary concerns and we want to be able to support you in any way we can.

Veterans Center

The Veterans Center is a one-stop resource for information and referrals regarding veterans benefits and rights. The Center provides support with post-deployment transitions, transfer of credits and educational benefits to service members.

Financial Assistance

The mission of the Financial Aid Office is to provide fair, equitable and unbiased service to students seeking financial aid.  This mission supports the  mission of the University by helping students find financial means that enable them to enroll in and complete their academic programs.

Scholarships

Southwest Minnesota State University offers a wide variety of scholarship opportunities including need-based scholarships awarded through the financial aid office, University awards based on academic performance and hundreds of merit-based scholarships made possible by our generous donors.
